A few days ago, I was watching a Filipino movie on Netflix, where the woman was writing to her future self online. Come to find out it’s a real thing! There’s Future Me.
Since I already wrote what I had wish I had known for my 20-year-old self, I thought, why not write one for my future self.
Here is a letter for future self in 20 years from now
Dear Future Me,
What could I say that you don’t know already? What could I possibly say that you would find amusing now that you’re in your 50’s or 60’s?
Is the iPhone still around? Do people still watch TV or is everyone watching in VR headset? Does everyone have a hovercraft like from the movie Wall-E? Details of 13 Things I Would Tell My Future Self Here.
What I would want you to know
1. I’m proud of you
I’m proud of you for being brave and allow yourself to be vulnerable in the last few months. It’s not easy to break away from isolating yourself and shielding your heart from people. Rather you’re taking steps to be your best you and the way God has created you to be.
2. Allow yourself to live your true self
I know you want to so badly, but you don’t have to be perfect. It’s okay to make mistakes and be vulnerable. I want you to remember this quote from Kris’ Destined to Win because it’s so fitting: “You were born to be an example of what [God] can do with weakness. When people observe your life and see who you have become what you have accomplished amid your faults, failures, flaws, frailties, and weaknesses, they will know that your greatness is rooted in Me. Your life was meant to be an inspiration for the weak and the broken. Many people will put their trust in Me because of what I do through you.”
3. Cultivate your tribe
The people you know and love you have the best interest for you. Continue to love them and nurture those relationships because those relationships have shaped you and helped you grow in different areas of your life. Protect those relationships. They’re priceless.
4. Your alone time is valuable
Whether you have kids or not, carve out time for yourself. You know better than anyone else that you need time alone. Your time alone refreshes and reboots you. It is time you get to be alone with God and have a special time with Him. When you take time for yourself, you’re able to be your best self around others.
5. Don’t neglect your priorities
I know how you can be extremely focused on work. However, I don’t want you to lose time with your loved ones. Experience life with your family and not be too focused on work. Those experiences are priceless. They are memories that you will cherish forever.
6. Let seasons be
There is time for everything. There is time to rest, time to cultivate, and other times to put in some hard work and plow. Be cognizant of the season you’re in because it will determine what you need to do. I don’t want you to be toiling when you’re meant to rest.
7. Learn as you go
Patience is one of the qualities that needs work. That’s okay. Allow yourself to be a learner at every stage of your life. Some things will not last forever, but become an explorer in whatever you’re learning. Learning keeps you sexy 😉
8. Continue to challenge yourself
Just because you’re older and wiser, does not negate you from challenging yourself. Challenging yourself allows you to grow and experience life fuller. It can be extremely uncomfortable, but as long as you believe in yourself, you are unstoppable!
9. Love with excellence
You were never one that hung out with big groups of people because it gives you anxiety. Even though you have a handful of people in your life, you love them and love them well. Continue to love with excellence and love them extravagantly. Love is a currency that will never go out of circulation.
10. Let rejection push you further
Just because someone says no, it doesn’t mean that the door is close. Maybe you need to go around the side door or through the back door to get the opportunity. Or perhaps that rejection will lead you to better opportunities. Don’t lose heart. Everything will work out for the best.
11. Persist and some more
Keep working on yourself. Keep working on your craft. The way you work and the way you process things aren’t the same as other people’s, AND THAT’S TOTALLY FINE. You were finely created by your Maker to work, live, breathe, love JUST THE WAY YOU ARE. Just because others know how to do what they do and make sense for them, doesn’t mean you have to follow suit. You go as fast or slow or whatever pace you need to go to work on yourself and everything else in your life.
12. Let your curiosity run wild
Continue to live life with curiosity and make an adventure out of it. Sometimes people look down upon curiosity because it seems like you’re prying. Curiosity fosters creativity, and innovation. I admire this quality in you. You’re not afraid to ask and find answers. You take your time to research things and initiate action to it. Never let that die inside of you, because that makes life exciting.
13. Keep dreaming and keep dreaming big
Do you remember when you started allowing yourself to dream? There’s some kind of magical element that performs along with it. Don’t ever stop dreaming. Don’t let your dreams become too mundane and stale. Keep your heart pure and excited for the future, because you’re not done yet. You have more things to build, create, and impact. I believe in you!
Myrelle, years from now, our worlds will collide. I hope that you live life each day full of love, wonder, and adventure. I can’t wait to see it all unfold!
